Recycling is easy once you put a few things in place. Here are ten tips to get you recycling like a pro; you’ll soon be on your way to zero waste!
- Find out what recyclable materials can be collected from your kerbside and make it your goal to recycle as much as you can. Check out the Recycle Now website to find details or contact your local council.
- Use the same links above to discover where your local recycling facilities are. Start taking some things there when you are out and about.
- Say no to disposable plastic carrier bags from the shops. It’s easy to take your own bags with you once you get into the habit – keep some in your car, handbag or clipped to your keyring
- Set up a recycling centre in your home. Use old boxes, crates or bags in a place that is convenient for you to store things.
- Say no to junk mail by signing up to the mail preference service.
- Buy loose fruit and vegetables from the shop. Alternatively check out your local farmers market or sign up for a vegetable box scheme
- Switch to paperless billing. This will reduce your paper footprint and some companies offer incentives such as money off your bill.
- Remove your kitchen bin and replace it with a recycling container. By removing the temptation, you’re more likely to remember to recycle, compost or reuse instead.
- Switch to a reusable rather than disposable option for a regular purchase such as kitchen towel, razors, biros or nappies.
- Reduce your cooked food waste. A bokashi or wormery will take care of cooked food scraps including meat, fish and small bones.
